Lucy East, co-owner of The Malachi in Oberon, NSW, alongside partner Johnny, had a vision for incorporating handwoven elements into the historic Art Deco theatre. A grant opportunity allowed me to drive up to Oberon with my loom in my car to hand weave the hems and valance of the velvet drapes. It took about 3 weeks of long days, sitting next to the fire and working alongside the local spinners to weave approximately 20metres of woollen cloth. The piece was inspired by the Bauhaus weavers, and colours of the theatre.
